Advanced age and gravity can result in a sagging of the eyebrows and skin of the upper and lower eyelids with excess skin. Related to this, puffiness or bags may appear due to the fat tissues existing at the eyelid region. This condition disturbs the aesthetic appearance of the person, and a sagging upper eyelid can impair the vision of the person. Plastic eyelid surgery removes excess skin and tightens the membrane over the accumulated fat tissue and removes some of the excess fat.
Thus, by ameliorating the outer appearance of the patient, a better vision of the patient is made possible. A scar will remain at the upper eyelid in the length of the eyelid. However, as this scar remains behind the lid, it is only visible when the eyelid is open and at a very short distance. This scar is not visible at all with the use of normal eyelid make up or foundation cream. On the lower eyelid, a scar remains right under the eyelashes. The continuing line of the scar will look like normal line of the skin. Scarring is minimal in the eyelids during wound healing. The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia and intravenous sedation are used sometimes. Related to the patients’ complaints, only the upper or lower eyelid or both eyelids can be reshaped at the same time. The surgery will take approximately 1/2 to 1 hours. Discharge from the hospital will be possible the same day. The patient may return back to normal life within 3 days.
